Pattern:
Download four-page pattern top with zipper on neck (Size 3-5 l). Print it on A4 (8.5 x 11 inches) paper with margins set to 0 and portrait orientation. Please note that this model has great flexibility in terms of size. You could make it wider by adding another portion is shirred in the back. The same pattern is suitable in size from 3 to 5 years.
The seam allowance:
• 1 cm, unless otherwise indicated.
Methods used:
Sewing buttonholes, shirring, applique, manufacture and sewing of the tape build-up.
Tailoring:
1. Cut a rectangle of 38 cm (length) x 33 (width) for the back. Fold it in half to 33 cm side.
2. Insert the bobbin with elastic thread and sew 4 - 5 rows of shirring, about 1cm apart. Don't worry if it seems that collects little. Once you have finished sewing, iron the steam iron the piece. This will help him to gather well.
3. Cut the pieces using the template. Cut one of main fabric and one from lining.
4. Fold the main fabric and lining, right sides together. Sew along the armhole, over the shoulder straps, neckline to the end of the other openings. Leave the sides and bottom unsewn. Make notches all along the curves to get a crisp finish on the edges when you remove it.
5. Open the front part of the sides and insert a piece of corrugated fabric between them so that the right piece will be aligned with the main fabric of the bodice. Cover with lining fabric and sew along the sides. Please note that in front of the curved side, so the stitching part just follow the curve, cut the excess fabric, we will then.
6. Route the other end of the shirred fabric to the line on the other side and stitch just as we did in step 5.
7. Twist the top and iron. Now try this on a baby and see how the back fits. Ideally, it should be neat and comfortable. If it fits then go ahead and cut off the corrugated part, which hung on one side, if not, to unpick the side seam step 6 and adjust the back width.
8. Cut a 9 cm wide strip of fabric for the back and fold it like a ribbon for building.
9. Sew the ribbon along the bottom just the top.
10. To make a buttonhole and sew the button on.
I'm almost done with the top at this point... and then I noticed it on the fabric.
I got fabric with this pattern from the collection in all colorways. So cute it just begs to be added to the top.
11. I cut a rectangle from the miracle of Pellon and ironed it from the inside piece of fabric.
12. Then I cut out these triangles from the sample. I ironed them with an iron along the tape slightly off center to the right.
13. I set the stitch length to the smallest, the speed of the machine at low and sewed a seam along the edge of all the triangles with black thread. I also added a few cute buttons at the neck.
And... hurray! Top ready for the latest summer fun...
