Last week I showed you how to reduce too much neckline with the help of colors and finishes. Today I will show you how to do the same using applique and lace.
I don't have a lot of pictures of how to fix it, but it's pretty intuitive and I will try my best to explain it with words.
First I made a seam along the shoulder seam to reduce the neckline.
Next, I measured how much cleavage I want to close and cut a rectangular piece of Navy blue lace and Navy blue satin to close this area with a small allowance.
Lay the lace and the satin, right sides together, sew a seam along one side of the rectangle (the side that will remain at the top of neckline) to join the two tissues.
Place the satin fabric inside the neckline to customize the way you want. I strongly recommend to hand-tack the fabric at the neckline. This will give you a good idea about how it will look from the outside. And you could also make sure that you keep in shape neckline. I did this and later realized that the neckline was a bit skewed. Sew on the original seam. Cut off the excess fabric on the inside.
Happened. Find fabric scraps in matching colours. Now to cut some applique shapes that will blend in with the pattern of the original garment. Put in the right place on the neck and iron without steam. To set automatic sewing machine to the smallest stitch length and slow speed and stitch along the edge of an application. If you look closely at the appliqué, it corresponds to the pattern of the dress.
Neckline was smaller and prettier.
